Eggsploding Eggs

I think this is even more amusing than the fruit. Makes a hell of a mess, and a lovely sound. Much more soggy. The procedure is nearly the same as for the fruit, but if you crack the shell when putting the hole for the banger in it, then you will not get the distance on the flying goo. You will need:

  1. A lighter
  2. The egg of your choice
  3. A knife
  4. Some bangers

Almost the same as for the fruit, but be careful when inserting the banger.

This is how I did the egg:

1. Find a suitable blast area. I chose to use the cone used for the fruit, as it has a convenient hole in the top that holds an egg perfectly. I moved the cone to the garden, to avoid egg all over the drive, which would be sure to arouse suspicion on the return of my parents.

2. I took my egg of choice, and scratched away at the pointy end until I made a hole big enough to fit the banger in, like this:

I was careful not to crack the shell apart from the hole, as this would prevent the blast from reaching it's full force.

3. I then tookthe banger, and wrapped it in clingfilm, like this:

This stops the slimy goo from soaking into the banger. Not really nessecary for fruit, but with eggs it is. trust me.

4. I then dropped the banger into the egg, taking care not to drop it all the way in, so the fuse and the top of the banger is poking out, like this:
5. If, like my banger, your banger floats in the goo, then that is fine, but if not, wrap more clingfilm around it for a tight fit.

6. I then placed the egg carefully on the cone area.

7. I then lit the fuse. As soon as it was ignited, I ran very fast away from the fizzing egg, triggering the camera on the way past.

What happened:

Well, what do you expect? here is a sequence shot of the explosion of the egg. This was perfect, as in my shot of the fruit, the explosion happened so fast the camera was unable to capture the exact moment of detonation. With the egg being liquid, it moved slightly more slowly, and the camera was able to photograph the precise moment:

  • I think that deserves another look, don't you?

The highest distance attained by a fragment (or blob) of egg was:

    5.2 metres

Which I think is very good, considering the size of the banger. The fruit attained:

    over 13 metres

but that was using a considerably larger banger.

More research is needed to discover which end, type and grade of egg produces the most satisfying sound, and a way of cheaply manufacturing small explosive devices to detonate the egg, as bangers are still in short supply. Have you any comments or suggestions that could aid us in our research?
